J&K Police Rescue 13 Youths Trapped in Myanmar Job Scam
In a daring operation, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have rescued 13 youths who were duped by a cyber job scam and trafficked to Myanmar. The youths, who were lured by fake job ads on social media, were promised work abroad, but instead found themselves trapped in a human trafficking racket.
The ordeal began when the youths, mostly from rural areas of Jammu and Kashmir, responded to fake job ads on social media, promising lucrative jobs abroad. The scammers, posing as recruiters, convinced the youths to pay hefty fees for visas and work permits. Once they reached Thailand, they were taken to Myanmar, where they were forced to work in inhumane conditions.
However, the authorities in Jammu and Kashmir were quick to act, and launched a rescue operation to bring back the trapped youths. The operation, which was carried out in collaboration with Indian Embassy officials in Myanmar, was a result of a tip-off from a family member of one of the victims.
The rescue operation was a complex one, involving coordination with Myanmar authorities and diplomats. The police team, led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Kathua district, travelled to Myanmar to verify the identities of the youths and facilitate their return to India.
According to SSP, the youths were rescued from a remote area in Myanmar’s Mon State, where they were working in a rice mill. “The youths were in a state of despair, with no food or proper shelter. They were being threatened by the traffickers, who demanded more money from their families,” he said.
The rescued youths, who are now undergoing counseling, were taken to a safe location in India, where they are being provided with food, shelter, and medical assistance. The police have also registered a case against the traffickers and are working to identify and apprehend them.
This rescue operation highlights the gravity of the human trafficking problem in Jammu and Kashmir, and the need for greater awareness and vigilance among the public. The cyber job scam, which is becoming increasingly common, uses social media to dupe innocent people into paying money for fake jobs or services.
The case also underscores the importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies and diplomatic missions in rescuing stranded citizens. The Jammu and Kashmir Police, in particular, have been commended for their swift action in rescuing the youths and bringing them back to safety.
The rescued youths, who are now recovering from their ordeal, are grateful to the authorities for saving them from a life of exploitation. “We were trapped in a nightmare, with no hope of escape. We thank the police and the Indian Embassy for rescuing us and bringing us back home,” said one of the rescued youths.
As the investigation into the case continues, the authorities are working to identify the masterminds behind the cyber job scam and bring them to justice. The rescued youths are also receiving counseling and support to help them rebuild their lives.
