2 Foreigners among Tourists Killed by Terrorists in J&K’s Pahalgam: Reports
In a shocking and devastating terror attack, 27 tourists, including two foreigners, were killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on Tuesday. The attack, carried out by Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba’s offshoot The Resistance Front, has sent shockwaves across the country and the world.
According to reports, one Israeli national and one Italian national were among the victims of the attack. The attack took place in the Baisaran area of Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in the Valley. The death toll is one of the highest in a single terror attack in the region in recent years.
The attack began around 7:30 pm on Tuesday, when a group of terrorists, reportedly four to six in number, ambushed a group of tourists who were on a trek in the Baisaran area. The terrorists opened fire on the tourists, killing 27 of them on the spot. Several others were injured in the attack, although the exact number of injured is not yet clear.
The attack has sent shockwaves across the country, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and other top leaders condemning the attack and expressing condolences to the families of the victims.
“The brutal terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, is extremely sad and unfortunate. My condolences to the families of the victims. I hope the perpetrators of this heinous act are brought to justice at the earliest,” Prime Minister Modi tweeted.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also condemned the attack, saying that the terrorists would not be able to break the spirit of the people of the region.
“The terrorist attack in Pahalgam is a cowardly act. The terrorists will not be able to break the spirit of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. We will ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous act are brought to justice,” Sinha said.
The attack has also been condemned by the Israeli and Italian governments, with Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett saying that the attack was a “despicable act of terrorism” and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni saying that she was “shocked and saddened” by the attack.
The attack is a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by terrorism in the region, and the need for the government to take effective measures to ensure the safety and security of citizens and tourists. The attack also highlights the need for improved intelligence gathering and coordination between security agencies to prevent such attacks in the future.
The Pahalgam attack is the latest in a series of terror attacks that have taken place in the region in recent years. In 2019, a terror attack in Pulwama killed 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, while in 2020, a terror attack in Srinagar killed 14 police personnel.
The attack has also led to a massive security crackdown in the region, with security forces being deployed in large numbers to prevent any further attacks. The authorities have also launched a manhunt to track down the terrorists involved in the attack.
As the investigation into the attack continues, the country and the world are mourning the loss of 27 innocent lives, including two foreigners, who were killed in a brutal and senseless act of terrorism.
