CRPF Jawan Opens Fire, Kills 2 Colleagues & Injures 8 Before Killing Self in Manipur
In a shocking incident that has left the nation reeling, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan, identified as 35-year-old Naib Subedar Suresh Singh, opened fire at a CRPF camp in Manipur’s Imphal West District, killing two of his own colleagues on the spot and injuring eight others. In a tragic turn of events, Singh then took his own life using his service weapon.
The incident occurred at around 8:30 am on Thursday at the CRPF camp in Lamsang, under Imphal West District. According to reports, Singh, who was stationed at the camp, suddenly went berserk and started firing at his colleagues without any provocation. The victims, who were sleeping or engaged in morning chores, were caught off guard and had no chance to escape the hail of bullets.
The two colleagues who lost their lives in the firing incident have been identified as Head Constable Suresh Kumar and Constable Rajesh Kumar, both in their 30s. The injured personnel, who are undergoing treatment at a local hospital, include a Subedar, a Head Constable, and six Constables.
The Manipur Police, who were informed about the incident, rushed to the scene and took control of the situation. Senior officers from the police and CRPF also reached the camp to investigate the matter.
The motive behind Singh’s actions is still not clear, but sources suggest that he may have been experiencing some personal issues or may have been under stress due to work-related tensions. An investigation into the incident is underway, and the authorities are trying to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy.
The CRPF has ordered a probe into the incident and has also sought a detailed report from the camp commander. The incident has sent shockwaves across the nation, with many expressing outrage and condolences to the families of the victims.
This is not the first time that a CRPF jawan has opened fire on his colleagues. In 2019, a CRPF jawan had opened fire at a camp in Jammu and Kashmir, killing two of his colleagues and injuring several others.
The incident has raised questions about the mental health and well-being of security personnel, who are often deployed in high-stress environments and are prone to mental health issues. The authorities have announced that they will be providing counseling and other support services to the victims’ families and the injured personnel.
In the meantime, the CRPF has ordered a review of its security protocols and procedures to prevent such incidents from happening in the future. The authorities are also working to identify the reasons behind Singh’s actions and to ensure that similar incidents do not occur in the future.
As the nation mourns the loss of two brave hearts and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the sacrifices made by our security personnel and the importance of providing them with the necessary support and care.
