Irrelevant to discuss Article 370 in J&K Assembly session: BJP
The ongoing assembly session in Jammu and Kashmir has been marked by heated debates and discussions on various issues affecting the region. However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the ruling party in the state, has made it clear that Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, is no longer relevant for discussion in the assembly.
BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Sunil Sharma, recently stated that it would be a waste of time to discuss Article 370 in the assembly. According to Sharma, the issue is no longer relevant and the focus should be on addressing the pressing concerns of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“We are not going to waste our time discussing Article 370 in the Assembly. It’s irrelevant now,” Sharma said in a statement. “We should focus on the real issues affecting the people of Jammu and Kashmir, such as healthcare, education, and employment.”
Sharma’s comments come as the Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, delivered his address to the assembly last week. However, Sharma felt that the address did not reflect the promises made by the state’s present government.
“Unfortunately, the LG’s address did not reflect the promises made by the government. It was more of a repeat of what has been said earlier. We are not impressed,” Sharma said.
Sharma’s statement has sparked a debate among political parties in Jammu and Kashmir, with some arguing that Article 370 is still a relevant issue that needs to be addressed. The special status granted to the state under Article 370 was revoked by the Indian government in 2019, leading to widespread protests and unrest in the region.
The BJP, which has been a strong advocate for the revocation of Article 370, has maintained that the move was necessary to integrate Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country. However, opposition parties have argued that the move has led to a decline in the state’s autonomy and has affected the livelihoods of many people.
The recent statement by Sharma has also sparked concerns about the future of democracy in Jammu and Kashmir. The state has been under President’s Rule since August 2019, and many feel that the move has eroded the state’s autonomy and democratic institutions.
“The statement by Sharma is a clear indication of the BJP’s lack of commitment to democracy in Jammu and Kashmir. They are more interested in imposing their ideology on the state rather than listening to the people,” said a senior leader of the National Conference, one of the main opposition parties in the state.
The recent assembly session has seen heated debates on various issues, including the state’s economy, healthcare, and education. However, the BJP’s reluctance to discuss Article 370 has led to concerns about the party’s commitment to democratic norms and institutions in the state.
In conclusion, the statement by Sharma is a clear indication of the BJP’s stance on Article 370. While the party has been a strong advocate for the revocation of the special status granted to Jammu and Kashmir, its reluctance to discuss the issue in the assembly has led to concerns about the party’s commitment to democratic norms and institutions in the state.
