Operation Brahma Continues: India Sends Aid to Quake-Hit Myanmar
Just days after a devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar, India has continued its efforts to provide assistance to the quake-hit nation. On Sunday, India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar announced that the country had sent more aid to Myanmar, including disaster relief and medical supplies.
The earthquake, which struck on Friday, has left a trail of destruction and chaos across Myanmar, claiming the lives of over 1,500 people. The magnitude of the disaster has left the country reeling, with many more feared trapped under rubble or injured.
In response to the crisis, India has launched “Operation Brahma”, a multi-faceted effort to provide humanitarian aid to Myanmar. As part of this operation, the Indian Navy has dispatched two ships, INS Karmuk and LCU 52, to Yangon, the capital of Myanmar.
According to Minister Jaishankar, the ships are carrying 30 tonnes of disaster relief and medical supplies, which will be used to support the rescue and relief efforts in Myanmar. The supplies include food, medicine, shelter materials, and other essential items to help those affected by the earthquake.
The decision to send aid to Myanmar is part of India’s long-standing commitment to providing humanitarian assistance to its neighbors in times of need. The country has a robust disaster response mechanism, which is designed to quickly respond to natural disasters and provide timely assistance to affected communities.
In recent years, India has provided aid to several countries affected by natural disasters, including Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives. The country has also provided assistance to international organizations, such as the United Nations, in their humanitarian efforts.
The earthquake in Myanmar has also highlighted the need for greater regional cooperation in the face of natural disasters. The disaster has affected not just Myanmar, but also neighboring countries, including India, Bangladesh, and China.
India’s response to the crisis has been praised by international organizations and governments around the world. The United Nations has commended India’s prompt response to the crisis, saying that it is “a shining example of regional cooperation and solidarity”.
The European Union has also welcomed India’s efforts, saying that it is “a testament to the strong and enduring partnership between India and Myanmar”. The EU has also offered its support to the humanitarian efforts in Myanmar, saying that it is “ready to provide assistance to those affected by the earthquake”.
The earthquake in Myanmar is a stark reminder of the devastating impact that natural disasters can have on communities. It is also a reminder of the importance of regional cooperation and solidarity in the face of crisis.
As India continues to support the humanitarian efforts in Myanmar, it is clear that the country is committed to providing assistance to those affected by the earthquake. The “Operation Brahma” continues, with Indian Navy ships on their way to Yangon with vital supplies.
