Saw Snow Sliding from Peak: Uttarakhand Avalanche Survivor
The recent avalanche that hit the BRO (Border Roads Organisation) Camp in Uttarakhand has left many shaken. Two survivors of the disaster have shared their harrowing experiences of being caught in the snowslide, which left a trail of destruction and death in its wake.
Manoj, one of the survivors, described the terrifying moment when he woke up to a “mountain of snow” sliding from the peak. He was sleeping in his tent when the avalanche struck, and he was caught off guard. “I was fast asleep when suddenly I heard a loud rumbling sound. I opened my eyes to see a massive amount of snow sliding down the mountain,” Manoj recalled.
The sheer force of the snowslide was overwhelming, and Manoj struggled to stay awake as the snow poured down on him. “I was buried under the snow, and I couldn’t move. I thought it was the end for me,” he said, his voice still shaking with fear.
Vipin Kumar, another survivor, was also caught in the avalanche. He was buried in snow for about 15 minutes before he managed to get out. “I was trapped in the snow, and I thought I was going to die. But then, suddenly, the avalanche stopped, and I was able to get out,” Vipin said.
When asked how he managed to escape, Vipin revealed that he was able to dig himself out of the snow using his bare hands. “I used my bare hands to dig myself out of the snow. It was a struggle, but I knew I had to get out,” he said.
Both Manoj and Vipin are still trying to come to terms with the trauma they experienced during the avalanche. “It’s been days since the incident, but I still can’t sleep at night. The thought of what could have happened keeps haunting me,” Manoj said.
Vipin also revealed that he is still grappling with the aftermath of the avalanche. “I’m still trying to process what happened. It’s been tough, but I’m trying to move on,” he said.
The avalanche that hit the BRO Camp in Uttarakhand was a devastating incident that left many lives lost and several others injured. The incident has raised questions about the safety measures in place at the camp and the preparedness of the authorities to handle such emergencies.
The BRO Camp is located in a remote area of Uttarakhand, and the avalanche was triggered by heavy snowfall in the region. The camp is responsible for maintaining the infrastructure and providing support to the Indian Army and other security forces in the region.
The authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and have promised to take necessary steps to prevent such disasters in the future. “We will leave no stone unturned to ensure that such incidents do not happen again,” said a senior official from the BRO.
The incident has also highlighted the importance of avalanche safety and the need for greater awareness about the risks involved. “Avalanches can happen anywhere, and it’s essential for people to be aware of the risks involved,” said a spokesperson for the Indian Army.
As the survivors of the Uttarakhand avalanche continue to recover from their ordeal, their stories serve as a reminder of the devastating power of nature and the importance of being prepared for emergencies.
