Several Delhi Markets to Remain Shut Tomorrow Over J&K Terror Attack
In response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, several markets in Delhi will be shut down tomorrow as traders have called for a bandh to protest against the incident. The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has announced that the trade associations of Delhi will be observing a “complete shutdown” of markets, bringing business to a standstill in the city.
The brutal terrorist attack that took place in Pahalgam has caused deep sorrow and outrage among the trading community, with many expressing their solidarity with the victims and their families. The attack, which left several people dead and many more injured, has sent shockwaves across the country, with people from all walks of life condemning the act of terrorism.
The decision to call for a bandh was taken by the trade associations of Delhi, which include the Delhi Merchants’ Association, the Chamber of Trade and Commerce, and the Confederation of Indian Industry, among others. The associations have asked all traders and business establishments to remain shut tomorrow, in a show of solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“This is a call to all traders and business establishments to join hands and observe a complete shutdown of markets in Delhi tomorrow, in protest against the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam,” said Praveen Khandelwal, Secretary-General of CAIT. “We condemn the attack and express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims. We stand in solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and hope that the perpetrators of this heinous act are brought to justice soon.”
The bandh call has been widely supported by traders and business establishments across the city, with many expressing their willingness to participate in the protest. “We cannot remain silent in the face of such brutality,” said a trader from the Chandni Chowk market, one of the oldest and busiest markets in Delhi. “We will join the bandh and stand in solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir. We hope that this will send a strong message to those responsible for the attack.”
The impact of the bandh is likely to be significant, with many daily wage workers and small-scale traders likely to be affected. However, the trade associations have assured that the decision is not taken lightly and that they will work to minimize the impact on the economy.
“We understand the difficulties that this may cause for many people, but we believe that this is a necessary step to show our solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” said Khandelwal. “We will work to ensure that the impact is minimized and that the economy is not severely affected. We hope that the people of Delhi will join us in this protest and send a strong message to those responsible for the attack.”
The bandh has also received support from several political parties and organizations, with many condemning the attack and expressing their solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“This is a barbaric act and those responsible should be brought to justice,” said a spokesperson for the Aam Aadmi Party. “We support the decision to call for a bandh and hope that it will send a strong message to those responsible for the attack.”
