Six Men Sentenced to Six Years for Murder of Tailor in Hassan
In a landmark verdict, a local court in Hassan, Karnataka, has sentenced six men to six years in prison for the brutal murder of a 42-year-old tailor in 2022. The sentence, delivered by 4th Additional District and Sessions Court judge VN Jagadish on January 20, condemned both the crime and the accused’s attempts to buy their way out of justice.
The murder, which sent shockwaves through the small town of Hassan, occurred on October 22, 2022, when the victim, identified as 42-year-old tailor Manjunath, was found brutally murdered in his shop. The police investigation that followed revealed that the murder was a result of a long-standing feud between Manjunath and the accused, who had been involved in a dispute over a property deal.
According to the police, the accused, all of whom are local residents, had been trying to acquire a plot of land from Manjunath, but he had refused to sell. The dispute had been festering for several months, and finally, on the day of the murder, the accused decided to take matters into their own hands.
The accused, who were identified as Rajesh, Suresh, Ramesh, Rohan, Praveen, and Vikram, were arrested shortly after the murder and charged with murder and conspiracy. However, during the trial, it emerged that the accused had attempted to bribe several witnesses to turn against the prosecution’s case.
Despite these attempts, the court found the accused guilty of the crime and sentenced them to six years in prison. The judge, VN Jagadish, criticized the accused for trying to subvert the legal process and said that the sentence was meant to serve as a deterrent to others who may think of committing similar crimes.
The sentence has been welcomed by the local community, who had been following the case closely. “We are relieved that justice has been served,” said Manjunath’s brother, who wished to remain anonymous. “We had been waiting for this moment for a long time, and we are grateful to the court for upholding the law.”
The police, too, have welcomed the verdict, saying that it was a testament to their hard work and dedication to solving the case. “We are pleased that the accused have been brought to justice,” said a police officer, who wished to remain anonymous. “We had worked tirelessly to gather evidence and build a strong case against the accused, and we are glad that it has paid off.”
The case highlights the importance of the rule of law and the need for justice to be served, even in the face of attempts to subvert it. It serves as a reminder that no one is above the law, and that those who commit crimes will be held accountable.
