Six Men Sentenced to Six Years for Murder of Tailor in Hassan
In a landmark judgment, a local court in Hassan, Karnataka has sentenced six men to six years in prison for the brutal murder of a 42-year-old tailor in 2022. The verdict, delivered by 4th Additional District and Sessions Court judge VN Jagadish on January 20, condemned both the crime and the accused’s attempts to buy their way out of justice.
The murder of the tailor, identified as 42-year-old Mallikarjun, sent shockwaves through the community in Hassan. The incident took place on June 12, 2022, when Mallikarjun was found brutally murdered in his shop in the town’s main market. The police launched an investigation and arrested six men, including the prime accused, identified as 35-year-old Suresh.
As the investigation progressed, it emerged that the accused had attempted to bribe key witnesses to turn hostile and evade justice. The police, however, remained vigilant and ensured that the witnesses were protected and remained committed to testifying against the accused.
The court heard the case for several months before delivering its verdict. The prosecution presented a strong case, with several witnesses testifying against the accused. The defense, on the other hand, claimed that the accused were innocent and that the prosecution’s evidence was circumstantial.
In his verdict, Judge Jagadish praised the police for their diligence in investigating the case and for ensuring that the witnesses were protected. He also condemned the accused for attempting to bribe the witnesses and for their role in the murder.
“The accused have not only committed a heinous crime but have also attempted to subvert the course of justice,” Judge Jagadish said. “Their attempts to bribe the witnesses are a clear indication of their guilt and their desire to escape punishment.”
The judge further noted that the accused had shown no remorse for their actions and had instead continued to deny their involvement in the crime.
“The accused have shown no signs of remorse or regret for their actions,” Judge Jagadish said. “Instead, they have continued to deny their involvement in the crime and have attempted to shift the blame onto others.”
The verdict has been welcomed by the family of the deceased tailor, who had been fighting for justice for over two years.
“We are relieved that justice has finally been served,” said Mallikarjun’s brother, who wished to remain anonymous. “We had been fighting for justice for over two years, and it is a huge relief that the accused have been held accountable for their actions.”
The case is a significant one in the context of Karnataka’s criminal justice system, which has faced criticism for its handling of cases involving bribery and corruption. The verdict is a reminder that the courts will not tolerate attempts to subvert the course of justice and will take robust action against those who try to buy their way out of punishment.
As the accused begin their six-year sentence, the case serves as a warning to others who may be considering similar crimes. It is a reminder that the law will not hesitate to take action against those who commit violence and that justice will be served, even in the face of attempts to corrupt the system.
