Strong Earthquake Tremors Felt in Delhi-NCR
On Monday morning, the Delhi-NCR region was jolted by strong earthquake tremors, leaving many residents shaken and surprised. The tremors were felt across the national capital and its surrounding areas, causing widespread panic and concern. In the hours following the quake, social media platforms were flooded with posts from people who felt the earthquake, with many describing it as the strongest they had ever experienced.
The earthquake tremors were reported at around 9:30 am, with the epicenter located in the Himalayas, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The tremors were felt in Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad, and other areas in the NCR region.
“I was in my office when suddenly the room started shaking. I thought it was a minor tremor at first, but then I realized it was a full-blown earthquake,” said Rohan Sharma, a resident of Gurgaon. “This has to be the strongest earthquake I have personally ever felt. It was terrifying.”
Many others took to social media to share their experiences, with some describing the tremors as “intense” and “scary”. “The tremors were so strong that I thought my building was going to collapse,” tweeted @SoniaKapoor. “I was shaking like a leaf. This was no ordinary tremor.”
The earthquake was reportedly a magnitude 6.5 on the Richter scale, with the epicenter located at a depth of around 10 kilometers. While the tremors were strong, there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
The Delhi-NCR region has a history of experiencing earthquakes, and the tremors on Monday were likely a result of tectonic plate movement in the region. In January, earthquake tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR after a massive earthquake hit Tibet, causing widespread panic and disruption.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has advised people to remain calm and follow safety guidelines in the event of an earthquake. “In the event of an earthquake, it is essential to drop, cover, and hold on,” said an IMD official. “This will help reduce the risk of injury and damage.”
The NCS has also alerted residents to be prepared for aftershocks, which are common in the days following an earthquake. “Aftershocks can be just as strong as the main quake, so it is essential to be prepared and take necessary precautions,” said a NCS official.
In the aftermath of the quake, residents in Delhi-NCR have been advised to check for damage to buildings and infrastructure, and to report any incidents to the authorities. The Delhi government has also set up emergency response teams to respond to any situation that may arise.
While the tremors may have caused some disruption, the worst seems to be over, and life in Delhi-NCR has largely returned to normal. However, residents are still on edge, awaiting further updates from the authorities and bracing themselves for any potential aftershocks.
For now, the focus is on ensuring the safety and well-being of residents in Delhi-NCR, and on taking steps to mitigate the impact of future earthquakes. As one resident tweeted, “Let’s hope this is the last major quake we experience in Delhi-NCR for a long time. We’re just not ready for this kind of disruption.”
