Clash breaks out between TMC & BJP workers in Bengal’s Midnapore
The state of West Bengal has been witnessing a series of political tensions and clashes in the run-up to the upcoming elections. The latest incident of violence took place in the East Midnapore district, where clashes broke out between workers of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during the voting of Co-Operative bank polls on Saturday morning.
According to reports, the incident occurred outside a polling booth in the district, where a large number of people had gathered to cast their votes. The tension began to rise when supporters of the two parties started arguing over various issues, including the distribution of pamphlets and posters.
As the situation escalated, stones were hurled, and slogans were chanted by both sides. The police were quickly called to the scene to manage the situation and restore order. The police forces present at the spot used batons and tear gas to control the crowd, and the situation was eventually brought under control.
A video of the incident was shared by PTI, which showed the police trying to calm down the agitated crowd, while bystanders looked on in fear. The video also showed some people, including women, being pushed and pulled by the police to clear the area.
The clash was reportedly triggered by a dispute over the distribution of pamphlets and posters by the two parties. According to eyewitnesses, the TMC workers had set up a stall outside the polling booth, where they were distributing pamphlets and posters promoting their party’s candidate. The BJP workers, who were also present at the spot, objected to this and started arguing with the TMC workers.
The situation quickly spiralled out of control, with both sides engaging in a heated argument. The police, who were present at the spot, tried to intervene, but were unable to do so effectively. The clash continued for several minutes, with both sides refusing to back down.
The police eventually managed to restore order, but not before several people were injured in the clash. The exact number of injuries is not known, but reports suggest that several people were taken to hospital for treatment.
The incident has sparked widespread concern in the state, with many calling for greater law and order measures to be taken to prevent such clashes in the future. The state government has also promised to take firm action against those responsible for the violence.
The clash is also seen as a sign of the growing political tensions in the state, ahead of the upcoming elections. The BJP has been gaining ground in the state in recent years, and the TMC is seen as being under pressure to retain its hold on power.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the state, with many calling for greater efforts to be made to maintain peace and order. The state government has promised to take all necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
