Ruckus Erupts in UP Assembly over Dy CM’s Remarks on Mulayam Singh
The Uttar Pradesh Assembly witnessed a heated exchange on Wednesday, with a ruckus erupting over Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak’s remarks on Samajwadi Party (SP) founder Mulayam Singh Yadav. Pathak’s comments, which were perceived as derogatory, sparked outrage among SP members, who demanded his dismissal and raised slogans in protest.
The controversy began when Pathak, while speaking on a bill, made a remark that was perceived as an attack on Mulayam Singh Yadav. He said, “You (SP leaders) follow what Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) says. Will you also agree with his statement ‘Ladko se galti ho jaati hain (Boys make mistakes)’?” The comment was seen as a veiled attack on Mulayam Singh Yadav, who has been vocal about his views on the BJP and its leaders.
The SP members in the Assembly were quick to take umbrage with Pathak’s comments, and soon the atmosphere in the House turned tense. SP MLA from Rampur, Abdul Mannan, was the first to react, saying that Pathak’s remarks were an insult to Mulayam Singh Yadav and the SP. He demanded an apology from Pathak and asked Speaker Hriday Narayan Sharma to take action against the Deputy CM.
Other SP members, including MLA from Lucknow, Arvind Kumar Singh, and MLA from Kanpur, Shashank Vajpayee, also joined the protest, demanding Pathak’s dismissal from the government. They raised slogans, including “Mulayam Singh zindabad” and “Brajesh Pathak murdabad”, and attempted to approach the Speaker’s podium.
The BJP members, however, remained unfazed, and continued to chant “Jai Shri Ram” in response. This only added to the tension in the House, and soon the SP members began to get agitated. The situation was eventually brought under control by the police, who were deployed in the Assembly premises.
The controversy has sparked a heated debate in the state, with many questioning Pathak’s intentions. The SP has demanded an unconditional apology from Pathak and has threatened to launch a statewide protest if the request is not met. The BJP, on the other hand, has defended Pathak’s comments, saying that they were meant to highlight the SP’s double standards.
The incident has also raised questions about the decorum in the UP Assembly, which has been known for its disruptions and chaos in the past. The Speaker has promised to take action against those responsible for the ruckus, but many are skeptical about the effectiveness of any disciplinary action.
As the controversy continues to simmer, it remains to be seen how the situation will evolve. Will Pathak’s apology be enough to placate the SP, or will the party push for more severe action? Only time will tell. In the meantime, the people of UP are left to wonder about the state of politics in the country, and whether the Assembly is really a place where constructive debate and discussion can take place.
