Srisailam Tunnel Collapse Rescue Operation Gains Momentum
The rescue operation at the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel in Telangana has finally gained momentum, six days after a part of the tunnel’s roof collapsed, trapping eight workers in the debris. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), which is leading the rescue efforts, has confirmed the stability of the soil at the collapse site, allowing rescue teams to proceed with caution and confidence.
The incident occurred on Saturday, when a section of the tunnel’s roof gave way, burying the eight workers under a massive amount of rubble. The workers were part of a team working on a project to upgrade the canal’s infrastructure. Rescue efforts were initially hampered due to the unstable soil and the risk of further collapse, but the BRO’s confirmation of stability has given the green light for more extensive rescue operations.
According to sources, rescue teams have been working around the clock to reach the trapped workers, who are believed to be alive but injured. The teams have been using specialized equipment, including cranes and drilling machines, to clear the debris and create a path to the trapped workers.
The rescue operation is being led by the BRO, with support from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local authorities. The teams are working in close coordination to ensure that the rescue operation is carried out safely and efficiently.
The families of the trapped workers are anxiously waiting for news of their loved ones, and the authorities have promised to do everything possible to ensure their safe rescue. “We are doing everything in our power to rescue the trapped workers,” said a senior official from the BRO. “We are working tirelessly to clear the debris and reach them as soon as possible.”
The rescue operation is not without its challenges, however. The tunnel is approximately 2 km long, and the debris is spread over a wide area, making it difficult for rescue teams to reach the trapped workers. Additionally, the soil at the site is prone to landslides, which poses a risk to the rescue teams.
Despite these challenges, the rescue teams remain optimistic about their chances of rescuing the trapped workers alive. “We are making good progress, and we are hopeful that we will be able to rescue the workers soon,” said a rescue team leader.
The Srisailam Left Bank Canal tunnel is a critical infrastructure project that is expected to improve water supply to the city of Hyderabad and surrounding areas. The project is being implemented by the Telangana Water Development Board (TWDB) in collaboration with the BRO.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of construction workers in the state, and the authorities have promised to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the collapse. “We will leave no stone unturned to investigate the cause of the collapse and take necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future,” said a senior official from the TWDB.
As the rescue operation continues, the families of the trapped workers are holding on to hope that their loved ones will be rescued safely. The authorities are working tirelessly to ensure that the rescue operation is carried out with the utmost care and caution, and the people of Telangana are eagerly waiting for news of the rescue efforts.
