Meghalaya CM Urges Youth to Solve Problems Using Science & Tech
On the occasion of National Science Day 2025, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma emphasized the importance of using science and technology to tackle real-world problems. He encouraged the youth of the state to invest their time and energy in innovative solutions that can make a positive impact on society.
Speaking at the event, CM Sangma emphasized the need to support innovations and increase prize money for competitions that encourage young minds to think creatively and come up with solutions to pressing issues. He highlighted the state’s efforts in providing opportunities for young people to develop their skills and pursue their passions.
Meghalaya has been making significant strides in education, sports, and music. The state government has allocated ₹18 crore to support 3,000 artists through the Meghalaya Government Music and Performing Arts (MGMP) scheme. This initiative aims to promote and preserve traditional art forms in the state, as well as provide a platform for young artists to showcase their talents.
The CM’s emphasis on innovation-driven solution-oriented learning is in line with the state’s vision to become a hub for entrepreneurship and innovation. Meghalaya has been actively promoting startups and providing support to entrepreneurs through various initiatives, including the Meghalaya Startup Policy.
CM Sangma’s call to action is not only important for Meghalaya but also for the entire nation. India has been facing various challenges, from climate change to healthcare, and it is essential to equip the next generation with the skills and knowledge to tackle these issues.
The role of science and technology in solving real-world problems cannot be overstated. From developing sustainable energy solutions to creating innovative healthcare technologies, science and technology have the power to transform lives and create a better future.
In recent years, we have seen numerous examples of how science and technology have been used to tackle complex problems. For instance, the development of vaccines has been a game-changer in the fight against infectious diseases, while renewable energy sources have reduced our reliance on fossil fuels.
However, there is still much work to be done. As CM Sangma emphasized, it is essential to invest in young minds and support innovations that can make a positive impact on society. This can be achieved through various initiatives, including mentorship programs, incubators, and accelerators that provide funding and resources to startups and entrepreneurs.
The state government’s support for MGMP is a great step in this direction. By providing a platform for young artists to showcase their talents, Meghalaya is not only promoting traditional art forms but also encouraging innovation and creativity.
In conclusion, CM Sangma’s call to action is an important reminder of the role that science and technology can play in solving real-world problems. By investing in young minds and supporting innovations, we can create a brighter future for ourselves and for generations to come.
