Australia Cricket Schedule Announced; Ready to Host ENG, IND & SA
Cricket Australia has announced its schedule for the next two years, and it’s all set to host some of the most exciting series against England, India, and South Africa. In a major boost for the sport, the new schedule spans 11 cities and 14 venues nationwide for the first time in 17 years. This development marks a significant shift in focus towards the northern regions as potential hosts for winter series.
The highlight of the schedule is the Ashes opener, which will take place on November 21 in Perth. This will be followed by three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against India in October, preceded by a five-match T20I series. One of the T20I matches will take place at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), providing fans with a thrilling opportunity to witness world-class cricket.
The series against England will kick off with an ODI in Perth on November 17, followed by ODIs in Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney. The five-Test Ashes series will then begin on November 21 in Perth and conclude on January 7 in Sydney.
The India series will commence with a five-match T20I series, with the first match taking place on October 11 in Brisbane. This will be followed by three ODIs, with the first match scheduled for October 17 in Sydney. The Test series will begin on December 6 in Adelaide and conclude on January 7 in Sydney.
Meanwhile, the South Africa series is set to begin with a three-Test series in Perth from December 17. This will be followed by a three-ODI series in Melbourne, starting from January 12.
The schedule also includes a number of domestic matches, including the Sheffield Shield and the Big Bash League (BBL). The BBL will feature 59 matches, with the final taking place on February 4 in Melbourne.
The announcement of the schedule comes as a welcome boost for the sport in Australia, which has been facing a decline in popularity in recent years. The decision to host matches in northern regions is expected to attract a larger audience and provide a much-needed fillip to the sport.
“This is an exciting schedule for Australian cricket fans, with a range of exciting matches against some of the world’s best teams,” said Cricket Australia’s Chief Executive Nick Hockley. “We’re looking forward to hosting some of the biggest names in international cricket, including England, India, and South Africa, and we’re confident that this schedule will provide a great platform for our players to compete at the highest level.”
The schedule also marks a significant shift towards the northern regions, which have traditionally been underutilized as cricket venues. The inclusion of cities like Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide is expected to provide a much-needed boost to the sport in these regions.
“We’re thrilled to be hosting matches in some of Australia’s northern regions, including Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide,” said Hockley. “This is an important step in our efforts to grow the game and provide more opportunities for our players to compete at the highest level.”
Overall, the announcement of the Australia cricket schedule is a significant development for the sport in the country. With a range of exciting matches against some of the world’s best teams, fans are in for a treat in the coming years.
