Microsoft & Govt Launch AI Training Program Across 6 Indian States
In a significant move to empower women in the technology sector, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has partnered with Microsoft to launch the ‘AI Careers for Women’ initiative. This program offers a comprehensive 240-hour AI training curriculum, along with certifications and career support, specifically designed for women. The program aims to strengthen digital skills and create pathways to high-growth careers in the AI industry.
The ‘AI Careers for Women’ initiative will be implemented across six Indian states, including Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Uttar Pradesh. The program is expected to benefit around 20,000 women, providing them with the skills and knowledge required to succeed in the rapidly growing AI industry.
The training program is designed to equip women with the necessary skills to work in various AI-related roles, including data scientists, machine learning engineers, and AI developers. The curriculum will cover topics such as programming languages, data structures, algorithms, and machine learning. Additionally, the program will focus on developing soft skills, including communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
The ‘AI Careers for Women’ initiative is a significant step towards bridging the gender gap in the technology sector. Despite the growing demand for AI professionals, women remain underrepresented in the industry. According to a report by the International Labour Organization (ILO), women make up only 28% of the global workforce in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector.
The program will be delivered through a combination of online and offline training modes, including instructor-led training, online courses, and hands-on projects. Participants will also have access to career support services, including resume building, interview preparation, and job placement assistance.
The ‘AI Careers for Women’ initiative is part of Microsoft’s commitment to empowering women in technology. The company has been working towards increasing diversity and inclusion in the technology sector, particularly in areas such as AI and data science.
“The ‘AI Careers for Women’ initiative is a unique opportunity for women to acquire skills in AI and data science, and to build a career in this rapidly growing field,” said Dr. Sandeep Sibal, Additional Secretary, MSDE. “We are excited to partner with Microsoft to deliver this program and to empower women to take advantage of the many job opportunities available in the AI industry.”
Microsoft has been at the forefront of AI research and development, and has been working with governments and educational institutions to develop AI talent in various parts of the world. The company has also launched several initiatives to promote diversity and inclusion in the technology sector, including the Microsoft Professional Program in AI, which offers a comprehensive curriculum in AI and machine learning.
“We believe that AI has the potential to transform industries and improve lives, and that it is essential to ensure that women are equipped with the skills and knowledge required to succeed in this field,” said Tomer Weingarten, General Manager, Microsoft India. “We are excited to partner with the MSDE to deliver the ‘AI Careers for Women’ initiative and to empower women to take advantage of the many job opportunities available in the AI industry.”
The ‘AI Careers for Women’ initiative is a significant step towards promoting diversity and inclusion in the technology sector, and has the potential to make a positive impact on the lives of thousands of women across India. The program is a testament to the power of public-private partnerships in driving innovation and promoting social change.
